Rev 3:2 makes a powerful statement. It says, “Be watchful and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die, for I have not found your works perfect before God”. Before we all curl up in a ball and give up let’s think about the kindness in this scripture.
It seems in HIS mercy God is telling us to not let our guard down. That while the enemy has deceived us in some areas and we have allowed him to take some ground in our lives that we can go on the offense. By being watchful of our souls we can give strength to the things of God in our lives. Yes, HE says, some things are ready to die, but even that is love and mercy. HE is letting us know that the enemy has infiltrated some of our thinking and our commitments but they are not under the enemy’s control yet. We can build the wall around those things through the power of the Holy Spirit and keep them from slipping away. All it takes is being intentional about our living. To be on guard to the cunning ways of the enemy. That he knows not to come with a full frontal attack at us. He knows to come subtly and deceptively. At times all it takes is getting us too busy or too tired to be aware of what he is up to.
When God tells us HE finds our works not perfect before God, understand that means not mature, not complete. HE knows we will never reach perfection on this earth, but we can strive to have a lifestyle that reflects maturity in God. We can mature to the point of having God’s mind regarding things about life and the strength to walk in that mindset.
Too many times I have let things go and then realized how far reaching that loss actually was. At the time the compromise did not seem like a big thing. But in the end the small compromise carried big negative results. So I am trying to learn to be more watchful and to strengthen my hold on the things of God in my life and my area of influence.
Hope to see you in a Tea Room soon,
