The words above are found in the Book of Judges concerning the life of Gideon. You will remember him as the “mighty man of valor” hiding in a winepress. Don’t you love the way God sees us as opposed to the way we see ourselves.
Gideon accepted the assignment of crushing the Median and Amalekite armies along with his 300 man army. As they saw God’s strong arm in the initial battle they drew strength from that power. Even after many hours of chasing the enemy that had survived the first battle they would not give up. They were committed to completing the mission they had been given. They were tired, hungry, and dirty but they kept going. God recorded these beautiful words to describe them, “weary yet pursuing”.
The scriptures tell us that satan has armed himself with the task of “wearing out the saints of God”. But Gideon‘s life paints a strong picture for me. It reminds me that while I might get weary in the battle and satan may get a few punches in I should be committed to complete my assignment in the KINGDOM. When the accuser of the brethren comes before God telling HIM how pitiful a choice I am, I want God to be able to respond, “she may be weary, but you haven’t stopped her. She is still pursuing the KINGDOM and what I have asked her to do.”
Don’t look at yourself through the days that you feel you dragged yourself to the task set before you by God. Take strength in fact that while weary of so many circumstances you still showed up. You still gave it your best.
See you in the Tea Room again soon.
