Hunger of the Heart....

We all know how it feels to be ravenous for food. Think of those times when you got so busy you forgot to eat lunch then suddenly at 4:00 PM you are tempted to chew the eraser on your pencil. You moan that you will surely die if you don’t get something to eat “right now!”.

How long has it been since you felt that desperate hunger to be in God’s presence?  I am not talking about a great church service. I am talking about you and Jesus, alone.  There are times in our lives that we become so busy with living that we forget to eat (fellowship).  We find ourselves scrounging around our lives trying to find something to satisfy us.  We look everywhere, everywhere that is but the right place.

We often try to make our bodies be happy with a candy bar when it is craving nourishing food simply because the candy is easy and handy.  But our body knows what it needs and it refuses to be satisfied until it gets the good food it needs.  Our spirits are wise also.  We run hurriedly through our days filling our hours with friends, work, and recreation.  But what our soul and spirit are hungering for is time with Jesus.  And just like our bodies, our spirits and souls are not deceived.  Inside we know the weakness we feel when we have not had time with the Lover of Our Souls.  He alone can satisfy the emptiness and longings we have.

Today I encourage you to feed the hunger in your heart.  Put the world on hold and curl up in the lap of Jesus.  HE doesn’t need you to tell HIM anything or ask anything.  HE just needs you to be with HIM.  HE longs to lavish HIS love on you.  HE wants to remind you that you are the apple of HIS eye and the object of HIS affection.

When you have that “I don’t know what to do with me” feeling, stop.  Turn around and you will find the answer to everything waiting to receive you.  The time together is as precious to HIM as it is to you.

To coin a phrase from a commercial, “you’re not yourself when you’re hungry”.  Come to the ONE who knows you best and let HIM fill you to overflowing with HIS presence.

Hope to see you in the tea room again soon!
