Inquire....

When reading Joshua recently I was amazed by a sentence.  You will be familiar with the incident.  Some men from another country decided they needed to make a pack with Joshua to come under his protection.  They knew that God would not allow Israel to make covenant with a foreign nation so close to them.

The plan was to take some moldy bread and some empty wine flask and dress in torn faded clothing to appear to have traveled a great distance.  When they arrived they made their appeal to Joshua.  They stated they had traveled a long way to get to him.  They even said if he did not believe them he only had to look at their provisions and garments.

The scripture says that Joshua examined their provisions rather than inquiring of the Lord.  Because of that he was deceived and made covenant with them.  As soon as he had they revealed the truth.

How many times have you and I fallen for what appeared to be one thing yet turned out to be something else.  It is so important that we take the time to inquire of the Lord.  If you are like me there are plenty of times I could have been saved distress I had.  Things can look right and friends can confirm they are right, but did God say they were right?  There is a big difference between a good thing and a God thing.

I encourage you to take the time to inquire of the Lord before giving an answer.  My father taught me that people will usually always let you change a no answer if you realize after prayer that you can do a thing; but they will rarely let you change a yes answer when you realize you can’t.

Pray for God to guide every decision you make.

Hope to see you in a Tea Room soon,

Elizabeth
