I was studying Rev. 3:7 recently. Rather than the traditional thoughts one would expect God to illuminate from that passage, a different thought came.
As I was tending to major on the key of David and discern what doors were being opened and closed, HE chose a different route. HE asked a simple question, “Baby Girl who said those things?” I replied you, “YOU of course.” Then HE instructed me to read again and grasp the magnitude of the One speaking. Then the light came on. “These things says HE who is holy, who is true, who has the key of David who opens and closes doors.” I got it. The strength of those scriptures is not the incredible promises, wonderful though they are. The strength of the scripture is in Who is speaking. Verse 8 continues the same attitude when it begins with, “I know your works”.
Sometimes we need to remind ourselves of the integrity of the ONE who is speaking the glorious words to us. When the enemy comes at us trying to push his lies and deception upon us, we need to remind him of WHO said the words. It was not our imagination or self will that spoke the words. It was the Holy ONE, HE who is true, the ONE who holds the key of David. It is not just someone, it is the ONE!
Because of HIS holiness and integrity and honor, we can stand tall when the winds of adversity blow against us. WE can lift our heads in confidence because it is HE, not us that is working this thing in our lives. It is HE who knows our works. Yes, we tend to always take that verse in the negative and begin to repent and apologize (and that is good). But hold on to the fact that HE remembers our good works as well. That HE notes when we have little strength but continue to do what is right.
Remember in WHOSE hands you are resting!!! It is the HOLY ONE, the TRUE ONE, the ONE WHO HOLDS THE KEY OF DAVID, ONE WHO CONTROLS THE OPENING AND CLOSING OF DOORS.
Hope to see you in a TEA Room soon,
Elizabeth Foy
