We are all familiar with the portion of scripture above. It usually indicated an event that had been foretold and at that point is being fulfilled. But we have also adapted the saying in an effort to encourage ourselves about unpleasant things we might be going through. When confronted with a dire circumstance we will say, this too came to pass, meaning it is temporary.
I want to encourage each of us to have that view on life. Not only for the situations that arise but our lives in general. They all came in order to pass. Too often we hang onto things or give undue importance to things of this life as though this is all there is to us. But we need to remember this is not our home. Things whether good or bad are only in our lives a short time compared to life we have with Jesus for all the ages.
I am not one of those people who pretend that we all just laugh, throw our hands in the air and shout glory when traumatic things enter our lives. I believe there is value in being able to not only laugh at things but also to grieve over things or give attention to things that appear to be getting out of hand. I believe a walk of faith is not pretending things are not there but rather always beholding the face of the ONE who was there before the circumstance occurred and will be there after it is over and has the power to keep us in peace while it is all being settled.
There are times when a trial seems to have no end. But remember, even Job’s trouble had an expiration date. It was only about nine months out of a very long life. While you are going through things focus on the ONE who is able to keep all that you have given HIM until the end of time.
These things (or us) are not staying they (and we) have only come to pass....pass through to the life we have been expecting and waiting for.
This season gives us a glimpse of the credible Savior we will reign with forever.
