Frances Bacon once said, “Custom is the principle magistrate of man’s life.”
I was thinking recently of the two disciples on their way to the temple to pray. Many translation insert, “as was their custom”. We often have good intentions but when we get to the end of our day we find that what we have made a custom of is what was done during the day. How does the old saying go? The road to hell is paved with good intentions?
I want to encourage you to look at areas of your walk with God and see which ones need to be reworked or at least strengthened. After doing that realize that it will take time and effort to establish those things into a “custom”. Often we are told it takes 21 days to form a habit.
I believe it is the custom that we build in our life that directs our steps each time something presents itself. Anytime a situation arises we will inadvertently go to what is our custom in such things. We need to make sure that the thing we revert to, the thing that has become our custom, is the thing that glorifies the FATHER and exalts the power of HIS Word.
