In the Secret...

There is a beautiful song that has the above phrase in it.  In fact, the words are “in the secret, in quiet place”.  It speaks of waiting and longing for God in the secret, quiet place where HE is there.

Each time I think of that song I meditate on the importance of not just squeezing Jesus in.  By that I mean that at times even what we call our “quiet time with the Lord” is often filled with distractions.  Over the years I have found that it not only takes commitment, but it also takes practice to arrive at the secret quiet place.

I believe it is a secret place because there are things we won’t share with anyone but HIM.  No matter how close a person is to us, some things only God knows how to understand.  If you are anything like me, you have often found that the words that come out your mouth are a poor representation of what is in your heart.  Things like that can often lead to misunderstandings.  But the ONE who loves me most also knows me best.  HE always understands what my heart is feeling and what my words wish they could express.  It is a quiet place because until I can turn everything else in my mind and heart off, I cannot truly hear HIS heart.

While we might commit to have this secret, quiet place and time with God you will likely find that it takes practice to develop.  Don’t give up if on the first attempts you feel you cannot still you mind or your environment enough to quietly wait before HIM. Each day that you feel you have failed, remember that HIS mercies are new every morning.  HE is excited when we come to HIM with our hearts intent on just being with HIM and enjoying HIS presence whether HE speaks or not.  Whether we receive some earth shaking revelation or not, it is wonderful to be in HIS presence.

I found that when I continue to “show up” proving my intent to seek HIM and HIM alone, HE began to work in my mind and circumstances.  HE suddenly caused the phone not to ring or for the knocks on the door to stop and the interruptions from family or friends to cease.  HE honored my desire to be with HIM.

Nothing will set your day or life right any better than leaning against HIS chest and listening to the beat of HIS heart.  Snuggled in the warmth of HIS love there is peace.  From that peace comes the revelation of what to do next if you have decisions to make.  Or in that secret place of the nearness of HIS heart you will find the reality of who you are.  Not who people think you should be.

Begin to seek that secret quiet place with HIM.  HE will unfold secrets to your heart beyond your wildest imaginations.  HE will reveal the depth of HIMSELF to you as you take time to gaze upon HIS beauty.  HE really is the most amazing person and more beautiful than words can describe.  HIS gentleness will minister to you as you learn the art of being still before HIM.

Hope to see you again in the Tea Room.
