Purpose???

Purpose is a word we have heard a lot about over the past 10 years.  Whether in a career setting or a motivational seminar or a church service, it has been everywhere.

Trust me, over the past few weeks I have had plenty of time to think.  And as I thought, at times my heart could get so heavy because I felt I was not living my “purpose”.   You see I have known since I was nine years old that I was to preach the Word of God.  So finding my purpose was never the problem.  How to develop it at times has been the difficulty.  But here I sat no conferences, no teas, and no services.  In my mind that equaled no purpose.

As I would cry out to Jesus about how much time was being wasted with this healing process and how useless I was regarding my purpose; HE was thinking something else.

In that penetrating voice that only HE has HE said, “You have never fulfilled your purpose more, Baby Girl”.  Now I was really confused.  But as the Spirit of God opened my heart to truly hear HIS heart I understood.  HE explained that my purpose (as is everyone’s) is to minister to HIM.  Granted at times that involves ministry to HIS people but that should not be the majority of the time.  HE let me know that as I have sat many hours with seemingly nothing to do I was filling heaven and the Throne with what HIS heart longs for.  My undivided attention and adoration.  Filling HIS ears with love songs birthed from my heart not a song chart.  Declarations of undying love for HIM and acknowledgements of HIS great care of me and the glory of all HIS creation.

We tend to feel that we have to be doing something to show purpose.  We forget that being is showing purpose.  Being that one who will be still and focus on the ONE true object of our love.  We were created to love HIM.  We often use the phrase we were created to worship.  But what is worship really?  It can contain singing and dancing and drama at times but true worship is deeming HIM worthy of our best time and our best love and our best thoughts.  Not trying to tuck HIM in here and there in our lives.  Like you, I work a 40 hour week and have family responsibilities and now my body is demanding much more attention than I ever thought I would have to give it.  But that is not an excuse to shortchange Jesus on time and attention.

If we practice, we find we can balance a checkbook, send emails, file reports, etc. all while turning our hearts in HIS direction.  Making HIM know HE is the center of our every thought and deed.  And if our hearts are always turned toward HIM we will find a constant flow of revelation flowing from HIS heart to ours.

I think I will sit down, pour a cup of tea, and experience my purpose for a few moments.

Hope to see you in the Tea Room soon,

Elizabeth
