Walking in HIS Steps...

I read a book as a teenager with a title similar to the one above.  The jest of the book was how a community could be changed if everyone simply did what Jesus would do in the situation.  I know he had the bracelets WWJD for a while but sadly its meaning faded.

I have often wondered why the movement faded.  As I have thought of that recently I believe it was because thinking what Jesus would do was not too difficult, doing what HE would do was overwhelming.   It’s not that HIS response to situations was so physically or mentally taxing; it was that it always required doing for someone else no matter the cost to HIMSELF.

As I have been observing myself closely regarding this trait I find I am sadly lacking.  While I say as many others do that I want to be like Jesus, I miss the bedrock characteristic of HIS life.  Putting others first, always, every time, when it is not convenient, when it costs more than I want to pay, and takes me somewhere I don’t want to go.

While imitating Jesus sounds lofty and spiritual, I believe it can be boiled down to one thing, love as HE loved.  Treasure others, no matter how we might rate them, in the same measure HE did.  HIS evaluation of them cost HIM HIS life and it will likely cost me a good portion of mine.

Hope to see you in a Tea Room soon,

Elizabeth
