Your Name...

In reading Ps. 9:10 recently I was reminded of the power of HIS Name.  The first half of the verse states, “those who know your name, trust you”.  Let’s play with that thought a minute. There are many people whose name I know.  By know I mean I call them by that name.  I am always fascinated by the meaning of names so when I meet someone I like to determine if they reflect the name they carry.

You see, I can address someone by the name they have given me, but I don’t know that they are that name until I have gotten to know well.  Example, I might introduce myself to you as Elizabeth, “consecrated to God, House of God”.  But you don’t know whether or not if I am that name until you get to know me.

It is the same with God.  Moses was told I AM that I AM.  Only as Moses walked with God did he come to KNOW that God was, is, will be, all and anything Moses needed.  We can easily sign or quote the various names of God, but do we KNOW that HE is that name.  Only as we take time in HIS presence, allowing HIM to reveal HIS nature to us do we come to know the Name.  Only as we walk through challenges does the reality of that name become clear to us.  So clear that we trust that Name to manifest in our circumstances.

Truth is, we don’t trust people we don’t know.  A stranger will never convince me I should give him the keys to my vehicle so he can go to a job interview.  However, someone I have come to know can easily have that benefit. It is in knowing God on deeper and deeper levels that we trust HIM.  Trust HIM when things seem to be wrong, when the answer does not appear in the manner we expected or the time frame we had set.  Trust Him when HE asks things of us we don’t feel comfortable doing.

God is never offended when a seeking heart asks HIM to reveal who HE is.  It is HIS delight to make HIMSELF known to HIS children.

Hope to see you in a Tea Room soon,

Elizabeth Foy
